BLIND BOOKWORMS

A highlight of the last years has been working with blind and visually impaired young people in all our projects. Early on in the development of The Story of Books, Emma Balch, heard a presentation by UCAN, at an event organised by Nesta and Arts Council Wales in Cardiff. Hearing the UCAN team talk about the barriers to access to the arts for visually impaired audiences prompted Emma to contact the Royal National College for the Blind to talk about collaborations.

For the last five years, The Story of Books has welcomed students from RNC for work experience. On the back of this, Emma set out to involve blind and VI young people in the creative process of our production of Unicorns, Almost. Out of this came the Blind Bookworms Jazz Band – a project funded by Ronnie Scott’s Charitable Foundation.

We are launching our Blind Bookworms Book Club in April 2020.
